Dr. Shidlofsky has always had an keen interest in vision skills of athletes. For many years, he has worked with athletes from many different sports to enhance vision skills to put the individual at the “top of their game.”
In the last few months we have added two new tools to our arsenal to evaluate and train athletes and others who would like to improve vision performance.
The first is called the Senaptec Sensory Station. This was originally devised by performance scientists at Nike about 10 years ago. When Nike discontinued the program, many of the engineers left to form their own company to continue their work…the outcome was Senaptec. This tool tests 10 essential vision skills for sports:
- Visual Clarity
- Contrast Sensitivity
- Depth Perception
- Near/Far Quickness
- Perception Span
- Reaction time
- Multiple Object Tracking
- Target Capture
- Eye-hand Coordination
- Speed of Recognition
- Hand/Eye/Body Coordination
We are then able to compare the athletes outcome to others in the same sport at the same level (or higher level if desired). This helps target which skills need to be improved for their individual sport.

The other new testing tool is the Right Eye Performance test…this will be covered in my next blog.
